Roma Explorers Inn: Events and Attractions in the Area

Hope you had a happy Easter in Roma! Enjoyed Easter in the Country, and want to learn about more thrilling events happening around the region? Thankfully, we’ve got them handy! If you still haven’t had enough of the beauty of Queensland’s Outback (and we hope you never will), here’s another rundown of after-Easter events to look forward to in your itinerary while staying at the Roma Explorers Inn:

Roma Drag Racing at Ironbark Raceway

Watch some of the quickest cars in the Maranoa Region burn rubber at the Ironbark Raceway on April 27 from 2 PM to 8:30 PM. Here, local drag racing enthusiasts go toe to toe with each other in the strip’s half-mile run-off as onlookers cheer them on.

There will be a $10 fee for anyone interested in watching the thrilling drag race. The raceway has a spectator mound with excellent views to fully enjoy the show and Ironbark’s onsite canteen and bar will also be in operation for the duration of the event.

Note: There is a no-pets policy in place at Ironbark Raceway. Since drag cars have particularly loud engines when revving, passing, or doing burnouts, this is a precaution we want to take to avoid stressing our furry friends, and to get them out of harm’s way.

Roma Harmony Day

Held at the Roma Cultural Centre at 57 Bungil Street, on 6 April, from 4 PM to 6 PM, the Roma Harmony Day celebrates the Maranoa Region’s multicultural roots through a variety of activities.

Harmony Day consists of performances from multicultural dance groups, a costume parade, live music, face painting, plus market and food stalls.

Roma Lions & Chips in the Park

Held at Roma Lions Park at 38 Elmer Street, on 26 April from, 5:00 PM to 7 AM, the Lions Fish and Chips is a monthly tradition held on the last Friday of each month, excluding December.

The beauty of the park’s natural scenery is further amplified by the killer sunset and makes for a great stargazing spot after the sun’s gone down. There will also be freshly made fish & chips, doughnuts, and takeaways for peckish stargazers.

The Sundowner

The Sundowner is a live music event to commemorate the final day of The Outback Trail. Here, trail-goers can enjoy a bit of R&R before heading home and saying goodbye to both new and old mates.

The Sundowner’s live music lineup consists of heavy hitters born and raised in Queensland such as Mitch King and Maddy Thomas to deliver a cracker of a homecoming performance you won’t forget.

Note: The event strictly prohibits bringing any foodstuffs and alcohol inside the premises. For anyone interested in attending, tickets are on sale right now and will be held at the Western Queensland Spirit on 21 April from 12 PM – 4 PM.

RCAT Ladies Lunch

Additionally, Western Queensland Spirit will also be the venue for the RCAT Ladies Lunches. The Roma Commerce and Tourism Organisation (RCAT) is a not-for-profit organisation fostering a sustainable local economy by providing events and opportunities to current and future local businesses.

Held on 19 April from 12 PM – 2:30 PM (UTC+10), the Ladies Lunches are a way for female RCAT members to connect with other like-minded businesswomen while enjoying good food in a beautiful setting.

Interested RCAT members may purchase a ticket for $95.00 ($120.00 for non-RCAT members) and enjoy a welcome drink, a two-course meal, a signed copy of Keelen Mailman’s book, and good company with some old and new friends.

RCAT Understanding and Using AI & ChatGPT Class

For those looking to learn a meaningful skill they can take home while on a business trip, RCAT is currently hosting a demonstration titled ‘Understanding and Using AI & ChatGPT’ for business owners interested in learning how to streamline their tasks and boost productivity using this revolutionary tool.

The class will be held on the 17th of April, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (UTC+10) at 39th Hawthorne Street. Interested business owners who are also RCAT members can secure a slot for $50 ($65 for non-RCAT members).
